OutDoor 2014 with a global product appeal
An overview of OutDoor 2014
The 21st OutDoor show draws scores of exhibitors - new concept for trend show and industry award - OutDoor conferences with diverse range of presentationsFriedrichshafen, Germany - The world’s outdoor hotspots are equally as diverse as the businesses heading for the industry’s meeting place on Lake Constance. From 10 to 13 July 2014, international market leaders will be taking part in Europe’s premier OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen. 925 exhibitors from 39 countries will be showing their entire portfolios of products and services for all areas of retail. They will also be presenting numerous interesting innovations from the industry to inspire retailers and make the ranges even more varied. At OutDoor 2014, some 80 per cent of exhibitors will again hail from abroad.
"This result builds on the previous year’s excellent figure and allows us to strengthen our position on the international trade-show market”, explains Klaus Wellmann, CEO of the Friedrichshafen trade-show organisation. "We’re anticipating a high-quality OutDoor 2014 that shows everything a demanding public can expect, including new exhibitors and practically all market leaders in the industry”. Each year the trade show attracts more than 20,000 visitors from the segment. "For our community a trade fair like OutDoor is one huge set of opportunities. Opportunities to further your business, to learn, to make new contacts and renew and reenforce old ones. Whatever it is that you seek to get out of OutDoor, is there for the taking and the only pre-requisite is to attend. OutDoor is a huge opportunity for those who attend and those who don’t are really missing out”, explains sector spokesperson Mark Held, General Secretary of the European Outdoor Group.
The 21st OutDoor will cover clothing and footwear to backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, camping and climbing equipment, as well as specific services for industry and retail. With its centre stand in Foyer West, there will be an even stronger focus on the reactivated segment of outdoor water sports. "Outdoor water sports are related to our traditional exhibition areas. As a result, water sports in Foyer West will be represented more fully than in the past. The lake at the trade-fair complex will be available as a testing area to guests”, comments project manager Dirk Heidrich. OutDoor 2014 will fill the whole complex with all its 12 halls and exhibition space of 85,000 m². Better WiFi capacities will continue to enhance interconnected (and still free) communication on Lake Constance.
Restructured OutDoor Industry Award 2014 as a new symbol of quality
Anyone using the East Entrance to OutDoor 2014 will find themselves virtually in the middle of one of the show’s highlights. During the trade fair, the winners of the OutDoor Industry Award will be presented in a special show in Foyer East. However, this year the organisers of the awards - the European Outdoor Group (EOG) and the Friedrichshafen trade-show company - are taking a new route. The German Designer Club (DDC) has agreed to be a partner on the judging panel for the OutDoor Industry Award for the first time. "The OutDoor Award has become as an important component of the industry meet-up in Friedrichshafen. We’ll be giving fewer awards, but making these more professional. The presentation of the winners will serve a more practical purpose and have an informative character. All in all the changes we introduce will make a good competition even better”, explains Mark Held, General Secretary of the EOG and judge of the OutDoor Industry Award. The prize winners will be announced on the first day of the trade show at 5.30 p.m. in hall A2.
Hall of visions shows forthcoming fashion trends
A new trend show in hall A2 will replace the previous joint OutDoor fashion show. The new series of events is all about the up-and-coming colours, designs, fabrics and cuts for the next season. In order to identify trends, a survey was carried out of exhibitors, with international scouts, fashion specialists and journalists included in the procedure. The results will be combined to form the OutDoor trend show which will be performed three times a day in the Hall of Visions (hall A2). Modern projection techniques will complement the models. Permanent trend windows will also afford an insight into future outdoor fashion. "This new concept lets us present emerging trends to retailers so that they have a better idea of what to order”, comments OutDoor divisional manager Stefan Reisinger when explaining the new concept. With lounge areas and a bar, hall A2 will also become a new meeting place for guests seeking to talk to one another in a relaxed atmosphere. Also integrated are bouldering and sports competitions, as well as some of the Tent City exhibition from the Rothaus hall A1.
The new OutDoor conferences boost skills
The East conference centre aims to promote dialogue. In partnership with the European Outdoor Group (EOG), the "OutDoor conferences” will have a new look and their own programme, with international experts on the podiums who specifically address people from the industry sitting in the audience. "The purpose of our new range of presentations is to give our guests a solid debating platform and point of reference so that they are better equipped to deal with the challenges of the future and identify trends in time”, stresses project manager Dirk Heidrich. In 2014, focuses will be placed on sustainability, benchmarking from a consumer standpoint, selective retail, better labour conditions in the supply chain, physiological measurement methods for clothing, current information on the Chinese market, social media and local online marketing for retailers.
Showtime for outdoor sports
With the support of the German Alpine Club based in Foyer West, top sports events with exciting competitions will take place on the boulder wall (hall 2) and attract top athletes to Friedrichshafen. The German Boulder Cup will take place here for the second time and athletes will be competing for the title on 11 and 12 July. Further outdoors sports highlights will include the slackline demonstrations and a ropes course, including a 140 m flying fox. Exhibitor Gore will be inviting people to come to the "Feel Good Lounge” with its beach and chill-out ambience in the open space to the west of the complex.
The OutDoor party where sustainability’s hip
The OutDoor party is a must-go-to event which now has a third party zone in addition to the open space to the west and the atrium with press garden. This zone offers a slightly quieter musical backdrop and is the ideal place for relaxed chats. For just 15 euros, the OutDoor bash comes with the 2014 party shirt, free food and four alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks vouchers. Polartec will be sponsoring the party this year too, therefore supporting the industry and the "European Outdoor Conservation Association” (EOCA). At 12.30 a.m. the coach shuttle will bring party guests back free of charge to the hotels in the neighbouring towns.
The OutDoor 2014 will only be open to industry visitors from Thursday, 10 to Sunday, 13 July (Thursday to Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
